Why does TeraBox say file not found? What actually fixes it

You clicked a TeraBox share and got a 'File not found.' message instead of a file list.

The message gives no clue which of six causes applies, and only a timeout or rate limit clears on its own.

Works with terabox.com, 1024terabox.com, teraboxshare.com, and 5 more domains.

Tested 4 August 2026 90 share links By TeraSaver With Love

Short answer. TeraBox shows 'File not found' when the share code is wrong, the owner deleted the file, or the share is password-locked. In our test, 96.6% of 90 links opened. The rest were blocked, timed out, rate-limited, or missing. Check whether the share code has a leading 1 and retry once. If it still fails, the fix is in the owner's hands.

What you need first

  • You have the complete share link from the owner, including the code after /s/ or the surl parameter.
  • The share is public and not protected by a password. A password-locked share cannot be opened without that password.
  • You have not used up your daily link quota: 3 anonymous or 10 with a free account.

Step by step

  1. Remove the leading 1 from code

Share codes often are written with a leading 1 that is not part of the code. Try the code without that first character. If you pasted the link from a message, compare it with the original owner. A 404 may just be this typo.

  2. Try another supported TeraBox domain

The same share can appear under eight hostnames, including terabox.com and teraboxshare.com. If one domain returns File not found, paste the same share code into another listed domain. The share may still be alive on another.

  3. Identify the failure cause

Six causes appeared in our tests: SHARE_DELETED, PASSWORD_REQUIRED, SHARE_NOT_FOUND, UPSTREAM_TIMEOUT, RATE_LIMITED, CONTENT_BLOCKED. If the share is password locked, no tool can open it. If the owner deleted the file, no retry helps.

  4. Wait for timeouts and retry

A 504 means the source did not answer in time, not that your connection is slow. Wait a short while and open the link again. A 429 is rate limiting and clears on its own. Avoid repeated requests in a short window.

  5. Ask the owner for fresh link

If the error is SHARE_NOT_FOUND or SHARE_DELETED, the file is not behind that code. Ask the owner for a fresh link or a new copy of the share. No tool can recover a deleted share.

  • Paste the link

  • File list

Why this works

When you paste a TeraBox share link, the share code is read from the path segment after /s/ or from the surl parameter, and the source is asked for the file metadata. That metadata is public, so no sign-in is needed. The actual download uses the final address served by the source CDN, which means the file travels straight from TeraBox to your device and never passes through TeraSaver. The CDN answers range requests, so a download can resume and a player can seek. A leading 1 in the code is not part of the code itself, so it does not break the link, and all eight hostnames behave the same. The file name comes from the Content-Disposition header. A 403 from the source means the share is refusing access, not that the link was typed wrongly.

How these figures are produced: our testing method.

When it does not work

File not found.

TeraBox returned SHARE_NOT_FOUND with a 404. The share code points to no existing file, or the share used a leading 1 that is not part of the code.

Check the share code for a leading 1 and remove it if present. Confirm the link includes the full path after /s/ or a surl query parameter. If the owner deleted the file, no tool can recover it.

A password prompt appears before any file list is shown.

The share is locked with a password set by its owner. TeraBox reported PASSWORD_REQUIRED.

Ask the owner for the password. No page, tool, or device can open a password-protected share without it, and TeraSaver will not attempt to bypass access control.

403 Forbidden is returned when trying to open the share.

The source refused access. A 403 from the source means the share itself is refusing access, not that the link was typed wrongly.

Confirm with the owner that the share is still public and that access is allowed. Retrying will not change the source's answer.

429 Too Many Requests appears after several attempts.

Too many requests were sent in a short window. TeraBox reported RATE_LIMITED.

Wait a short while and try again. This clears on its own and does not mean the file is missing.

Limits worth knowing

  • If the owner deletes a file, the share stops working and cannot be recovered by any tool.
  • A password-protected share is closed to anyone who does not have the password. Using another device or tool will not help.
  • For an interrupted download, a download manager that supports range requests is a better tool than a mobile browser, because the final CDN address answers range requests and lets a download manager resume.

Safety, privacy and rights

A share locked with a password cannot be opened by anyone without that password; there is no workaround. The tool never asks for TeraBox credentials, and file metadata is readable without signing in. The final download goes from the source CDN directly to you, so no copy is stored here. If the owner deleted the file, no tool can recover it. Responsibility for access sits with the share owner and the source.

Questions people ask

How do I open a password locked TeraBox share?

Only the owner's password opens it. If the share is locked, no tool can bypass it. Paste the password when prompted, and the file list appears. Without the password, the share stays closed. This applies to all eight TeraBox domains we tested.

What causes a 403 Forbidden error on TeraBox?

A 403 means the share itself refuses access, not that you typed the link wrongly. The file may be blocked by the source or the owner. Try a different share link or contact the uploader. Retrying the same link likely returns the same 403.

Can I extract a zip from TeraBox without an app?

Yes, TeraSaver shows the file list and lets you download individual files without signing in. For a zip, download the file and extract it locally on your device. Nested folders are walked one level at a time, so a zip inside a folder is reachable.

Why does my TeraBox link show 429 Too Many Requests?

That is a rate limit from too many requests in a short window. It clears on its own after a short wait, so pause a few minutes and try again. TeraSaver has daily link limits: 3 links anonymously and 10 per day with a free account.

What does 504 mean when opening a TeraBox share?

A 504 means the source did not answer in time, which is unrelated to your connection speed. Wait a moment and retry the link. If it keeps timing out, the source may be overloaded. This is one of the less common failure causes we saw in testing.
